# Dead Souls II / Dead Souls II > slug: `dsII` · browser status: `playable` · native port: `40228` The real, self-identified 'Dead Souls Mud Library II,' released as public domain by Cratylus in November 2006 -- a distinct middle generation of the Dead Souls object library, between the earlier Nightmare-IV-era snapshot and the later, much larger 3.8.6 generation. A brand-new install walks the very first connecting player through a genuine first-boot admin-setup wizard (name, password, gender, display name, email, real name, and a race pick from seven options: halfling, elf, orc, half-orc, human, half-elf, or dwarf) before the mud restarts into its normal, ongoing registration flow. Four domains ship with the archive: a small default starting area, a town, an example town called Ylsrim with a pub, an armoury, a weaponsmith, a jar-and-lightning-bug minigame object, and a couple of deliberately 'broken' disease-item teaching examples, plus an LPC-University-themed campus area complete with a live greeter-bot NPC. The mud preloads a real Intermud-3 client and makes a genuine outbound connection to a live I3 nameserver a few seconds after every boot. ## Play in the browser (WebAssembly) - Landing page (description + notes): https://mudlibs.fluffos.info/dsII/ - Play now (boots the WASM driver): https://mudlibs.fluffos.info/dsII/play.html ## Download source ZIP - Same-origin ZIP (trimmed source tree, no need to clone the whole repo): https://mudlibs.fluffos.info/dsII/dsII.zip - GitHub tree: https://github.com/fluffos/mudlibs/tree/main/libs/dsII - README: https://github.com/fluffos/mudlibs/blob/main/libs/dsII/README.md - Restoration notes (NOTES.md): https://github.com/fluffos/mudlibs/blob/main/libs/dsII/NOTES.md ## Run natively with FluffOS 1. Build a current FluffOS driver from https://github.com/fluffos/fluffos (native `build` / `build-debug`; see that repo's docs). 2. Download and unzip `dsII.zip` from the URL above (or clone `https://github.com/fluffos/mudlibs` and use `libs/dsII/`). 3. From the unzipped lib directory, ensure `config.fluffos` points `mudlib directory` at this tree (the checked-in file may contain a maintainer-local absolute path — edit it to your extract path). 4. Start the driver: ```bash /path/to/fluffos/build/src/driver config.fluffos ``` 5. Connect a UTF-8 MUD client to `127.0.0.1:40228`. - Admin / wizard login: see this lib's README (no seeded account recorded) - If you host this on a public network, change the published default admin password before opening the port. ## Machine-readable catalog - Site-wide catalog: https://mudlibs.fluffos.info/games.json - Site-wide LLM overview: https://mudlibs.fluffos.info/llms.txt - This file: https://mudlibs.fluffos.info/dsII/llms.txt
